Firstly, I purchased the Kindle version. I knew a little bit from experimenting around with Captivate 9 before upgrading to Captivate 2017. I've found the hands-on approach of this book to be very effective and surprisingly engaging. I've picked up on quite a few little tricks that I wish I'd been aware of before. The only negative observation I have is that Adobe has changed the location and name of some of the files and assets that the book references. However, I was able to locate everything with a minor amount of digging at the Adobe website. I'm not certain if the book comes with a CD, which would probably make all of that moot anyway.
The book is fine, but there is no accompanying CD and the downloadable exercises & code is a 2.7GB zip file. If you have slow or restricted Internet, it will take 2 hours to download. I don't have the code because I can't afford the time to download it :(

Very well written in an informative, friendly manner. An enjoyable and informative read.
Although I have been working with Adobe Captivate for many versions, it had been quite a longtime since I had invested in a training manual like Mastering Adobe Captivate 2017. With some of the new features and functions of Cp over the last two versions, I felt it was time to take a step back and do some concrete learning, especially on variables and advanced actions, which I was in need of understanding to a deeper level. I found Mastering Adobe Captivate 2017 to be easy to follow and will be a VERY handy resource that I will can kept next to my workstation or laptop for quick reference. I feel it can also be a book to use if you need to train new users the basics of Adobe Captivate, which I sometimes have to within the workplace.
I've made a first pass through the book and confirm that it would have been EXTREMELY helpful to have when I first started working with Captivate (4+ years ago). I like that it starts from step 0 in terms of introducing a new user to the Captivate interface and practices, but does go into significant depth as well. The instructions are clearly written and illustrated with appropriate screenshots. There are extensive accompanying example files to work with (that I haven't gone through yet.) It certainly seems like a comprehensive overview of Captivate 2017 and an excellent resource for all kinds of designers/developers.
I started using Captivate version 2 ... Adobe folks have added so many great functions, I had to try using Captivate features to build enhanced slide decks to relate material with my IP text & pictures
