I received a Dutch Oven as a Christmas present, and while I could scour the internet for recipe ideas, I wanted something that provide me with a variety of choices in one place. This book covers the basics for getting started - the pros and cons of different materials such as cast iron, enameled cast iron, stainless steel and aluminum, as well as tips for cleaning and caring for whatever choice of Dutch Oven you choose. The recipes are well organized, easy to follow, and presented. I would have liked pictures to accompany each recipe, but this is just a personal preference. I'd recommend this as a good all-in-one cookbook to get anyone started with the Dutch Oven.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the recipes. One note: prep time is based on higher level of skill and or kitchen space than beginning cook, so take that into account.
I've been cooking for about 50 years in all sorts of ovens and cookers and even experiment with my own ideas. I suppose this book is good for younger folks just starting out with slow cookers. Some of the recipes don't actually interest me but that is true for many I suppose.
Very nice cookbook. Came right on time.
